Ben

My first completed For Sale doll was Ben.

Ben was originally going to be a zombie. After playing around with his coloring a little though, I went darker and saw him emerge as something totally different. I call him a lizard baby, and some people refer to him as the lizard demon ;)

The name "Ben" comes from Ben Chapman. He was one of the actors who played the Gill Man ~ aka The Creature from the Black Lagoon & that is what Ben reminded me of when he was finished.

Ben is painted with a light green acrylic paint mixed with black to make it darker. He has some "dirty" yellow on his finger and toe nails and on his belly button. His original eyes were replaced with plastic, yellow "cat" eyes.

The ridges above his eyes and his tongue are both made out of Milliput Epoxy Putty http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CNIHY4/ref=ox_ya_os_product. Some great stuff that works like clay yet doesn't need heat to set.

Ben is one of my proudest acheivements because he was all experimental and turned out so cute! He, along with one of his brothers, was my first sale on Etsy. He now lives in Germany.

Hello World

Well HeavenLeigh Horrors has been around for a few months now, but this is my first blog post so it is what I'm considering my official introduction to the online world.

HeavenLeigh Horrors began kind of by accident. In October, I found the cutest mass-produced zombie babies and decided I must have one. Within a week or so though, the only place that carried them was sold out and I couldn't find anything similar. There were a few other creepy dolls, but all were way out of my price range. So, with some help from friends at http://greedyorneedy.com/, I got supplies and decided to try making my own dolls. And WOW did it take off from there!

My own personal dolls are Lizzie the vampire (white) and Alice the zombie (green):

After that, came Ben, Crowley, Harmony, Lilith, Jake and Dante ~ but I'm going to give each of them their own post.

I've had a few people ask me about the doll making process. I don't mind sharing how I do it and I do often take pics along the way, and I figured that a blog is probably a better location for that than somewhere I'm promoting to sell.

In the meantime, you can find me on Etsy (new babies coming soon!) http://www.etsy.com/shop/HeavenLeigh123 and also please become a fan of HeavenLeigh Horrors on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/HeavenLeigh-Horrors/209377126169?ref=sgm

Thanks for reading!
